14 Algerian Students Qualify for the Global Final of the Huawei ICT Competition

A Strong Algerian Presence on the Global Stage

Algeria’s consistent success in the Huawei ICT Competition reflects the country’s growing capabilities in the fields of innovation, cloud computing, and network technologies. This year’s participation further solidifies Algeria’s position as a rising hub for tech talent in the region.

Algiers, April 10, 2024 – In a major achievement for Algerian students, 14 of them have won the regional qualifiers of the 2024/2025 Huawei Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Competition. After a series of remote online tests, these students have earned the opportunity to represent Algeria in the global final of the competition, to be held in China in May 2025, where they will compete with teams from around the world.

Algerian teams qualified for the global final in the categories of Innovation, Networks, Computer Science, and Cloud, after delivering outstanding performances during the regional qualifiers. Among the qualified teams, four Algerian teams will represent the country in the international ICT competition.

Algerian students won the grand prize in the Networks category, with a team composed of Merzouka Ilyas from the Higher School of Telecommunications in Oran, Belhadi Aya Sarah from the University of Algiers 1, and Senoussi Ibrahim from the Higher School of Computer Science in Sidi Bel Abbès. In the Computer Science category, the team made up of Talbi Abdelrahman, Mehloul Mohamed, and Della Abdelrahman, all from the Higher School of Computer Science in Sidi Bel Abbès, won the grand prize of the regional qualifiers. In the Cloud category, the team consisting of Makran Imad Eddine, Ben Cheikh Abdelwahab, and Bali Amira, from the Higher Schools of Computer Science in Algiers and Sidi Bel Abbès, took first place in the regional qualifiers.

The Algerian Innovation team, participating for the first time in this category, secured second place in the regional qualifiers after presenting an innovative project in the fields of insurance technology and fintech. This team will also travel to China to take part in the global final in May 2025. The team includes Sofiane Chelghoum, Ranim Mahalta, Walid Khouchem, Meryem Ben Tazi, and Ilham Arouj.

Huawei Algeria continues its efforts to support Algerian youth by offering academic training opportunities in the field of ICT through programs such as the Huawei ICT Academy, which has benefited thousands of students across various Algerian universities. Through such initiatives, Huawei contributes to strengthening cooperation with Algerian universities and offering advanced educational programs in technology and digitalization.

The Huawei ICT Competition serves as a key platform for discovering and developing young talent in Algeria, with more than 2,500 Algerian students having participated in the national competition this year—reflecting the growing interest among young Algerians in ICT fields and their ambition to develop skills in these advanced domains. It is worth noting that during the previous edition of the competition in China, Algerian teams won the global prize in the Cloud and Networks categories, highlighting the significant progress made by young Algerians in this sector.
