Algiers Wilaya Security Dismantles a Transnational Criminal Network and Seizes Nearly Two Million “Prégabaline” Capsules

As part of the ongoing fight against organized crime, the operational services of the Algiers Wilaya Security succeeded—following meticulous investigations lasting over four months—in dismantling a transnational organized criminal network. The network was active in smuggling, illegal trafficking of psychotropic substances, and laundering its criminal proceeds under the cover of car and motorcycle dealerships.

Operation Details and Seizures:

  • Suspects Arrested: The operation resulted in the arrest of 11 individuals, including a woman and an African national.

  • Blow to Drug Networks: Authorities foiled an attempt to smuggle large shipments of “Prégabaline” from a southeastern province of the country toward the capital. Nearly two million capsules were seized, meticulously concealed inside medical oxygen cylinders at a warehouse in the suburbs of Algiers.

  • Money Laundering and Assets: Seizure of 636 motorcycles and 16 vehicles (utility and passenger cars of various types and sizes) acquired through criminal proceeds across the provinces of Ouargla, Touggourt, and Algiers.

  • Funds and Weapons: Confiscation of a cash sum amounting to 6.18 billion centimes, alongside a 12-gauge hunting rifle.

The total market value of the items seized during this high-profile operation is estimated at approximately 250 billion centimes.
