Algiers, December 22, 2024 – As part of its ongoing efforts to strengthen the digital economy and develop young talent in information and communication technologies, Huawei Algeria organized the “Huawei Cloud Day” on December 22, 2024, in Algiers. During the event, the winners of the Huawei Cloud Competition for programmers were honored, and Huawei’s technological solutions that contribute to the development of the digital economy were presented, with a focus on the role of artificial intelligence in this process.

The “Huawei Cloud Day” brought together representatives from the High Commission for Digitalization and various Algerian ministries, including the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, the Ministry of Knowledge Economy and Startups. The event provided an opportunity for developers and startups to network with Huawei experts and explore the latest trends in artificial intelligence and cloud computing.

In his opening speech, Mr. Colin Hu, President of Northern Africa Huawei Cloud and Enterprise, said: “At Huawei, we believe that modern technologies, particularly artificial intelligence and cloud computing, are key to achieving digital and economic transformation in Algeria. Through this event, we aim to honor the creators and developers who contribute to building the country’s digital future. We also reaffirm our constant commitment to supporting young people, innovative students, and startups to leverage these technologies to develop innovative solutions that meet the needs of society.”

The first edition of the Huawei Spark Infinity competition for programmers in 2024 was a great success, with more than 98 teams from across the country participating. On December 15, the national finals took place with 6 teams showcasing innovative projects aimed at using modern technologies to address social challenges through artificial intelligence. This competition is one of the major events supporting startups and promoting digital innovation in Algeria.

Through its cloud solutions, Huawei highlighted the importance of artificial intelligence and modern technologies in driving the growth of the digital economy. At the “Huawei Cloud Day,” the role of artificial intelligence in developing cloud solutions to accelerate applications and build intelligent systems supporting sectors such as agriculture, healthcare, and urban planning was demonstrated. Participants also had the opportunity to interact with Huawei experts in the fields of artificial intelligence and cloud solutions.

As part of its ongoing support for young talent and developers, Huawei Algeria’s cloud solutions have enabled startups and students to launch innovative projects using artificial intelligence and cloud computing by providing flexible and secure cloud platforms. This helps small and medium-sized enterprises, as well as individual developers, to accelerate their applications and achieve their ambitions. Huawei also offers a range of training programs and initiatives aimed at enhancing young people’s skills in programming and developing innovative cloud technologies, thereby contributing to their development on the latest technologies.

The winning teams of the Huawei Cloud Competition 2024 were honored, including the Octadot team, which presented the project “Hurudza”, an intelligent agricultural system that uses advanced digital tools to increase productivity and ensure food security through sustainable agriculture. The Homorpha team was recognized for its project “Burhan”, an innovative platform for protecting healthcare data using intelligent symmetric encryption techniques, ensuring privacy and security in cloud environments. Finally, the EcoVision team presented the project “Urban Distortion”, which uses artificial intelligence and satellite imaging technology to detect and prevent land-use violations effectively. These teams will represent Algeria at the Huawei Cloud Competition for North Africa, scheduled for the first half of 2025.

Through this event, Huawei aims to build a strong and open programming environment and enhance the digital cloud ecosystem using advanced technologies such as artificial intelligence, databases, and native cloud computing. The event served as a platform for exchanging knowledge and promoting technological innovation among programmers and innovative projects, in line with Huawei’s strategy to build an interconnected and intelligent world that helps drive digital progress in the region.
