Algiers Police Dismantle Two Organized Crime Groups Trafficking Drugs and Psychotropic Substances

Over 13,000 Psychotropic Tablets and 6 kg of Processed Cannabis Seized

Algiers, May 26, 2025 – The security services of Algiers Province, represented by the police departments of Dar El Beida and El Harrach, arrested 14 individuals, including some with prior criminal records, on charges of forming an organized crime network involved in trafficking drugs and psychotropic substances. The operation led to the seizure of 13,540 psychotropic tablets and 6 kilograms of processed cannabis (kif).

The two cases began following intelligence reports indicating suspicious activities involving the sale of drugs and psychotropic substances in the jurisdictions of Dar El Beida and El Harrach. Consequently, judicial police units conducted a series of field investigations that resulted in identifying the suspects.

The first case, handled by the mobile judicial police unit in Bab Ezzouar, led to the arrest of five individuals and the seizure of 13,540 psychotropic tablets. In the second case, the El Harrach judicial police unit arrested nine individuals and confiscated 6 kilograms of processed cannabis. Overall, the two operations resulted in the arrest of 14 suspects and the seizure of:

13,540 psychotropic tablets

6 kilograms of processed cannabis (kif)

Prohibited bladed weapons and fireworks

45 million centimes in national currency from trafficking proceeds

Seven vehicles used to transport the illicit substances
Upon completing the legal procedures, the suspects were presented before the competent territorial prosecution on charges of felony possession, storage, transportation, and trafficking of drugs and psychotropic substances in an illegal manner within the framework of an organized crime network.
